Aging Gracefully…

Recently I celebrated my 49th birthday! I debated whether or not to write about this birthday. There is a stigma surrounding aging in North America and 49 isn’t really a milestone birthday. But somehow it feels significant. I suspect it may have something to do with realizing I’m officially middle-aged!?!

Ok, the reality is, I was middle-aged a few years ago, but I am now just realizing it.

Perhaps it only just dawned on me as I don’t feel my age and I certainly don’t act it. Although, I’m not really sure how a 49 year-old is supposed to feel or act. I do know I’m wiser than I was 29 years ago. You know, the wisdom that truly only comes with life experiences.

On the flip side, I am starting to see some of the less desirable effects time can have. Last year, I had to make some changes to my diet and exercise to help beat middle-age spread and most recently I have noticed my skin is starting to show signs of aging. I now have fine lines on my forehead and around my eyes that I never had before. In addition, sun (brown) spots and broken capillaries from accumulated sun damage are also visible.

While there is nothing wrong with aging, I would like my outside to match the way I feel on the inside.

Thankfully, there’s never been so many ways to maintain that youthful look. Of course, I know it starts with sleep, diet, exercise and a good skin care routine. But a few anti-aging procedures to reduce the effects of aging couldn’t hurt. RIGHT?

Look, I’m not trying to stop time… just slow it down a little.

I know there will be some people who may think I’m denying the natural aging process or that I am somehow not happy or fulfilled. Nothing could be further from the truth. I should also add, I know I have been blessed with good genes and good health.

So, I’m not obsessed with stopping the clock but I am choosing to slow the process down. I’ll share any anti-aging procedures I try. I doubt I’lll try any botox or fillers, but then again, never say never!

What are your thoughts on aging gracefully?
