With Father’s Day right around the corner (it’s Sunday, June 21 this year), my dad has been in my thoughts more than usual. This will be my first Father’s Day without my Dad. They say the first year after a loved one passing (especially birthdays and holidays) is the hardest and at this point in time I can’t disagree. It’s been eight months since he passed, but as Father’s Day approaches I am once again reminded of my loss.
My dad was one of the good ones. He wasn’t perfect (no one is) and like most of us, he had his own little quirks and idiosyncrasies. For instance, he was not one for gifts. He worked hard his entire life and always provided for us, but when it came to us giving him gifts his response was always “what do I need that for”? One could assume we didn’t pick the right gift. However, that wasn’t the case. He preferred the simple things in life and a meal shared with his family was more than enough to make his day complete.
While I will be missing my Dad this Father’s Day (and everyday), at least I have some great memories and I have another amazing Dad and husband to celebrate. Thankfully, picking out a gift for Brent is much easier. Most of the gift ideas listed below have been purchased for him over the years. So, I can assure you they’d make any Dad (just not my Dad) happy.
What exciting activities do have you planned for spoiling the Dad in your life this year?
